Capping Arm Shaft Seal, Part Number: GRASVI00001. Located on the capping arm (capping arm/capping head) of the capping machine, it is installed at the opening where the capping head’s main shaft (lifting shaft/drive shaft) passes through the fixed bearing housing or end cap.
Our products are not OEM, they are only compatible parts.

Product Description
In terms of appearance, it is consistent with standard skeleton oil seals (such as the TC-type double-lip rubber-coated, spring-loaded design): The entire unit consists of an elastomer ring with a metal skeleton. A primary sealing lip and a secondary dust-proof lip form a double-lip structure; the lip edges feature concave grooves to accommodate the sealing medium and a retaining spring (compression spring). The outer circumference is rubber-coated, and the seal is secured by being pressed into the bearing housing bore.
Application Location
1. Located on the capping arm (capping arm / capping head) of the capping machine, mounted at the point where the capping head spindle (lifting shaft/drive shaft) passes through the hole in the fixed bearing housing or end cap.
2. The typical structural sequence of a capping arm is: drive gear → bearing → rotating mount → gear sleeve → capping head spindle → magnetic coupling clutch → capping pressure piece. During the capping process, the capping head rotates around its own axis and revolves with the turntable, while simultaneously moving up and down along the cam guide. The maximum operating cycle can reach 100,000 units per hour, and it is frequently subjected to rinsing with chlorine-containing, acidic, and alkaline cleaning agents, as well as CIP/SIP cycles. The clearance between the capping arm and the housing is extremely small, specifically designed to prevent the accumulation of dust and impurities and to facilitate the maintenance of a clean environment.
3. The shaft seal is located at the interface between the main shaft (rotating component) and the bearing housing/end cap (stationary component), with one seal typically installed per capping head.
Features and Selection Criteria
1. Dual-lip design: The primary lip seals against oil or grease, while the secondary lip faces outward to block dust, making it suitable for operating conditions where dust, moisture, and cleaning agents are present simultaneously on the screw cap arm.
2. Rubber outer layer + metal skeleton: The outer rubber ring ensures a static seal with the bearing housing bore and compensates for thermal expansion, while the metal skeleton maintains press-fit rigidity and ensures dimensional stability of the bore.
3. Food-Grade and Media Compatibility: In environments where process fluids, steam, hot water, and acidic or alkaline cleaning agents coexist, EPDM is the preferred choice (resistant to steam, water, and ozone, but not oil); if the sealing area comes into contact with lubricating grease, select NBR (oil- and wear-resistant); consider FKM/Viton only for high-temperature or highly corrosive conditions. Brown and black versions typically represent different material systems and should not be interchanged based solely on dimensions.
4. Lip orientation must match the pressure side: The side with the spring must face the medium being sealed (lubrication chamber); installation in the opposite direction will result in failure.
5. The shaft surface is half the sealing system: The recommended surface roughness of the contact area is Ra 0.4–0.8 μm; there must be no scoring, rust spots, tool marks, or annular wear grooves. Once grooves form, the seal will leak again no matter how many times it is replaced.
6. Low-pressure rotating seals: Radial lip seals are only suitable for rotating seals with low pressure differentials (typically ≤0.5 bar). Shaft eccentricity, excessive bearing clearance, or excessive back pressure in the chamber can cause the seal to flip or be forced out.
